The Charles Glass Society joined arms with the SAB Boucher Foundation to raise almost R150 000 towards the fight against rhino poaching in South Africa.

Retired Protea’s cricketer Mark Boucher addressed four of the societies in his position as Founder of the SAB Boucher Foundation which aims to raise funds to have each rhino’s DNA listed on a database run by Onderstepoort. This will enable each rhino horn to be linked to a specific crime thus assisting in securing convictions. The SAB Boucher Foundation was formed in 2012 and has raised close to R1 million to date.

Boucher addressed Charles Glass Society meetings in Polokwane, East London, Egoli and the North Region, who raised R80 000, R20 000, R35 000 and R12 000 respectively.

Formed in the 1980’s as a forum to appreciate Castle Lager and make a real difference in communities across South Africa, the Charles Glass Society has a long history of charity. Funds raised from the annual membership fees and money spent at monthly meetings as well as additional contributions made by members are collected and donated to charitable causes which resonate with the society.

The nine Charles Glass Societies around South Africa host bi-monthly meetings featuring guest speakers.

“Consumers want to feel as if they are part of something big that is making a difference,” said Castle Lager General Manager Alastair Hewitt.” The Charles Glass Societies are about fun, friendship and laughter in order to make a difference in the communities around us and this recent fundraising effort shows that every little bit counts towards a very worthy cause.” We are incredibly proud of what the Charles Glass Society has achieved over two decades in making a difference to so many organizations in need. The Castle Lager “Our Rhino in Safe Hands” initiative has only really just begun and our sincere gratitude goes to Mark Boucher for his passion, leadership and dedication to this initiative and the short journey we have travelled thus far.
