Rainbow‚ Foodcorp deal gets the nod

Johannesburg - The Competition Tribunal on Thursday approved Rainbow Chicken's [JSE:RBW] acquisition of a 64.2% interest in Foodcorp Holdings with conditions‚ which were not immediately available.
The Competition Commission‚ which assessed the transaction earlier‚ concluded that the deal was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in the market.
Rainbow Chicken through its subsidiary‚ Capitau‚ acquired Foodcorp for R1.037bn.

Local retail chain, Sefalana, has withdrawn a lawsuit it filed at the Lobatse High Court against the Competition Authority (CA), Choppies, SupaSave and MegaSave. Citing market share concerns, Sefalana went to court after it lost the bid to acquire SupaSave and its distribution wing, MegaSave to rival supermarket chain, Choppies.
