How big is your packaging footprint?

As we become more conscious about sustaining our environment the product packaging consumers’ use today needs to be more environmentally sustainable than before.

In short the manufacture process for packaging needs to go green. These processes should be using less raw materials, emitting less carbon dioxide and should even be compostable. And, when we look at what some suppliers and manufacturers of fast moving consumer goods are doing already, this seems completely feasible.

Spar looking to expand in Africa
The Spar Group is considering further business opportunities elsewhere in Africa, Business Report reported on Wednesday. The group would tailor its business model to expand into other territories, but any expansion outside South Africa would be done cautiously, chief executive of the JSE-listed group, Wayne Hook, said.

Greenpeace exposes toxins in clothing
Greenpeace Africa is calling all major brands in South Africa to start eliminating hazardous chemicals from the production of clothing and footwear. This comes after Greenpeace International, yesterday revealed the findings of a year-long investigation into toxic pollution in China.The report found hazardous chemicals in samples of wastewater discharges taken at two textile processing facilities, near the Yangtze and Pearl River deltas in China. Both these facilities have links to a number of major international and national clothing brands including Adidas, Nike which are imported into South Africa.
