Retailer, Pick n Pay, has been in the spotlight of late as it puts its turnaround strategy in motion to regain lost share in South Africa’s grocery retail market. Of particular interest has been its drive to hire specialists with international experience to compliment its bounce back plan and overall business goals.
The retailer has made a number of key appointments recently, many of whom have years of experience, both locally and in retail markets abroad. Most notably, perhaps, is the appointment of Richard Brasher, from the top ranks of UK-based Tesco, to take on the role of Pick n Pay CEO.
Last week, the chain announced the appointment of Paul Marsh to fill the role of divisional manager for groceries and perishables. Marsh, who spent 22 years with Massmart, also has experience in Asian markets. This, according to Pick n Pay, will provide key insights into best FMCG international practice.
